Alexis Méndez
(Cuba)

Nace  en Ciudad de La Habana Cuba. Realizó sus primeros estudios musicales en el Conservatorio "Guillermo Tomás", luego ingresa en la Escuela Nacional de Arte y posteriormente en el Instituto Superior de Arte, del que se gradúa en 1995 con "Título de Oro". Entre sus maestros figuran Fernando López, Roberto Kessel, Antonio Alberto Rodríguez, Aldo Rodríguez, Jesús Ortega, Víctor Pellegrini, Jorge Luis Zamora y Eduardo Martín. Comienza su carrera profesional haciendo música de cámara en el “Ensemble de Guitarras de La Habana” Actualmente es profesor titular del Instituto de Educación Integral “Eduardo Laredo”,Colegio “Don Bosco” y Colegio” Hughes” en la ciudad de Cochabamba, Bolivia, así como es el Presidente y Director Artístico del Concurso y Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Cochabamba. 

Ha obtenido diferentes premios: Primer Premio y Mención por la interpretación de la música cubana en el Concurso Amadeo Roldán en sus ediciones de 1984 y 1987, Tercer Premio y Mención por la interpretación del concierto “Elegiaco" de Leo Brouwer en el Concurso Nacional de Guitarra de 1996, Primer Premio Concurso Nacional de Guitarra del 2000. Participó en el Concurso Internacional de Guitarra de La Habana del 2000, obteniendo los siguientes premios: Tercer Premio, Diploma y Trofeo , Premio de la Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales de Cuba ,Premio de la Radio y la Televisión de Cuba ,Premio "Masauro Kono" y Premio Ichiro Susuki .

Obtuvo el segundo premio, diploma y trofeo en la sexta edición del concurso internacional de guitarra Manuel M Ponce celebrado en la ciudad de México en el año 2002. Ha ofrecido recitales y conciertos en las principales salas y teatros del país, así como ha sido miembro de jurado y ofrecido clases magistrales en varios concursos internacionales de guitarra, también se ha presentado en escenarios de Bélgica, Francia, Mexico, Peru, Chile,colombia, argentina, Venezuela,  Bolivia y Cuba.

Ha recibido clases magistrales de importantes maestros como son: Leo Brouwer (Cuba), Costas Cotsiolis (Grecia), David Rusell (Inglaterra) y Alirio Díaz (Venezuela).

A la fecha tiene tres grabaciones “Habana en tus ojos”( 2001) producido con guitarmasters en Argentina , “ De la Rumba son “( 2006) producido con RTV en Perú y “ En otra dimension”( 2008) ) producido con RTV en Perú.

Born  in Havana, Cuba, Alexis Mendez carried out his first musical studies at the Conservatory Guillermo Tomás, then entered the National School of Art and later studied at the Superior Institute of Art, graduating in 1995 with honors. Among his teachers have been Fernando López, Roberto Kessel, Antonio Alberto Rodríguez, Aldo Rodríguez, Jesús Ortega, Jorge Luis Zamora and Eduardo Martín. His professional career began with his participation in the Ensemble of Guitars of Havana. At the moment he is professor of guitar at the Eduardo Laredo Institute, Don Bosco High School, and Hughes School of the Performing Arts in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia.

He is also the president and artistic director of the International Guitar Competition and Festival in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Alexi Mendez has received many distinguished awards including: First Prize and Special Mention for the interpretation of Cuban music at the Amadeo Roldán Competition in 1984 and 1987, Third Prize and Special Mention for the interpretation of Leo Brouwer´s Elegiaco in the Cuban National Guitar Competition of 1996, First Prizeat the Cuban National Guitar Competition of 2000. With his participation in the International Guitar Competition of Havana in 2000, he obtained the following prizes: Third Prize, Recording Prize from Musical Editions of Cuba, the Radio and Television Prize of Cuba, the Masauro Kono Prize and the Ichiro Susuki Award.

He was awarded second prize in the sixth edition of the Manuel M Ponce International Guitar Competition in Mexico City in the year 2002. Alexis Mendez has offered recitals and concerts in important concert halls and theaters in Belgium, France, Mexico, , Chile,  Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela Bolivia and Cuba and participated in master classes of Leo Brouwer (Cuba), Costa Cotsiolis (Greece), David Rusell (England) and Alirio Díaz (Venezuela).

To date he has two recordings, Havana in Your Eyes (2001) produced in Argentina and Of the Rumba They Are (2006) produced by RTV in Peru. and Of “ En otra dimension”( 2008) ) produced by RTV in Peru
